Harvesting Potatoes

Earlier this spring I planted four little spuds (two red and two yellow varieties) but only two survived and sprouted. Considering that one of the plant has finally died and the other is in the process of dying, I thought that I might as well dig out and harvest the potatoes. Weather-wise, it's probably the right time to harvest my potatoes because the weather in general has gotten a lot colder. Furthermore, the general practice of harvesting potatoes is to wait for the plant to flower and die, and then once the plant is dying or dead, one can then harvest the potatoes.

I found it quite fun digging through the dirt to find the potatoes. I thought that I was only going to get the red variety, but luckily for me, one plant was of the red variety and the other is of the yellow variety. As you can see, I got a handful from both plants. Although it wasn't a lot, it's enough for a couple of meals. I'm actually surprised that the yellow variety produced three really big potatoes. I really didn't expect the potatoes to get that big. This experience has really made me want to try and grow potatoes again next year and to plant more than four little spuds. I've already started saving spuds from my purchases from the farmer's market. I hope to grow the same yellow and red potatoes that I grew this year, and I want to add fingerling potatoes to the mix. I'm already looking forward to spring.

Chicago Trip

I've been meaning to post and share about my trip to Chicago. I must say, it is a really fun city.

Considering that I've been living in the Midwest for a very very long time, I have never visited Chicago. I've drove through the city earlier in the year when my sister and I were visiting Ann Arbor, Michigan, but we didn't have time to stop and see it. While driving through, my initial impression of the city was that it was dirty and I might not want to visit it.

Then a couple of months ago, a friend suggested that I meet up with her in Chicago for the Labor Day weekend. Despite my prejudices, I agreed. I'm very glad that I agreed. Chicago is so fun.

My friend and I stayed in downtown Chicago and most of the time we stayed close to that area. During our time there, the weather was quite wonderful. We visited many museums, saw the many outdoor parks, and did A LOT of walking. I saw several things that were a first and the eating experience there was good overall. I really just loved how vibrant the city was and the ambiance offered by the neighborhood we were staying in.

I would totally go back to Chicago again. It really is a fun city and I definitely would recommend it as a destination city for vacationers.

Hello Friend

A lovely friend (whom I dearly love and hold close to my heart) reminded me that I have not posted anything lately on this blog. I told him that I would do it right away; therefore, I write this specific post for him.

Friend, I want to let you know that I will always love you and I wish that things were different. Maybe our paths will cross again and then maybe it might not. If it doesn't, I want to let you know that I'm sorry for all the pain I have caused you and all the heartache that I've brought into your life. Please know and understand that I have always loved you, and you have always been in my heart and on my mind, even when I've ventured down the wrong path. I did not intend to be careless with your heart. I don't know what the future holds for us and if there even will be an "us," but I truly want you to find happiness and love. Please don't let my mistakes keep you from being fearless with your heart. Please also forgive me. I love you always.
